October is always fun. Halloween is our favorite and it's finally cooling down so we can spend more time outside. We started the month by attending Dinos in the Desert at the Phoenix Zoo, where we ran in to Ben's friend Max and his parents. They had a TON of fun together checking out dinosaurs and riding camels. We ended the day with a Jurassic Park Jeep tour of our neighborhood :)
Pawpaw and Grandma Helen drove all the way out to Arizona to spend some time with us! Ben, Pawpaw and Craig went to an ASU football game - ASU unexpectedly won, so Ben was very excited. We all went fishing in our local pond. Pawpaw brought poles and a fishing bag for Ben. Nora HAD to have her own fishing back so I donated one of my bags, which we filled with all kinds of "fishing gear" for her :). The kids had a lot of fun learning how to fish from Pawpaw - they even caught a wee little sunfish (bluegill). We also took the kids bowling - it was Nora's first time!
After Pawpaw and Grandma headed back to Virginia we spent some time at the local park enjoying the nice weather and working in the garden at Ben's school. Craig spent a couple of nights at a local comedy club participating in science-themed comedy performances. Apparently he has good comedic timing :). He also got to meet Sexy Sax Man, who crashed a meeting Craig was attending in Pasadena. JEALOUS! We both had Careless Whisper stuck in our heads for the entire month.
For Halloween festivities we visited MacDonald Ranch in North Scottsdale where we picked pumpkins, fed animals at the petting zoo, and ran through a hay bale maze. We also went to Dino Trick or Treat at the Phoenix Zoo where we ran in to Kylo Ren (who was looking for a little white and orange droid, a.k.a. Nora) and some Tusken Raiders. The kids had fun getting their faces painted, collecting candy, and making adorably creepy spiders!
Ben started a drawing class this month - he's learning cartooning right now. It's fun to see what kind of drawings he comes home with :). He's still loving chess, too. Ben was tested for the gifted program this month. He said the testing was fun - we're just happy it wasn't too stressful since he's so young. We should hear back in November.
